Sanju takes her grandfather to the hospital

Sanju checked her wallet and sighed. She had only a 5000 rupees left. She had spent most of her money on her grandpa's medicines and some daily expenses. She had been looking for a job for the past three weeks, but with no luck. She had applied to several cafes and restaurants, but they all wanted experienced staff or higher education. She had also asked Parimala, to help her find a job. Parimala had tried her best, but nothing had materialized yet. Sanju felt hopeless and helpless. She wanted to earn money and help her grandpa with his treatment. He was all she had for her family. But she felt like she had no opportunities or options at the moment. She mentally prayed Lord Shri Ram asking him to show her the path. She put her wallet back in her bag and held her grandpa's hand. They were at the hospital, where they had come for a follow-up appointment with the physician. The physician had examined her grandpa and told them that he needed to see a senior cardiologist asap. He had recommended more tests and scans on her grandpa. Her grandpa was taken in for further tests, leaving Sanju in the waiting area.

Sanju sat on a chair and waited patiently. She looked around and saw other patients and their relatives, some of them looking worried, some of them looking bored, some of them looking tired. She felt a pang of sympathy for them. She knew how hard it was to deal with illness and uncertainty.

She heard a loud cry and turned her head. She saw a young man holding a one-year-old boy, who was wailing and squirming in his arms. The man looked flustered and frustrated. He tried to soothe the boy, but nothing seemed to work. He rocked him, bounced him, patted him, but the boy only cried louder. Sanju felt a surge of compassion for the man and the boy. She got up and walked towards them. She smiled and said, "Hello, sir. Do you need any help?" The man looked at her and said, "Oh, hello. No, thank you. I'm fine. He's fine. He's just a little cranky today and his mother is inside. He'll calm down soon."

Sanju nodded and said, "I understand. It must be hard for him. And for you." Sanju looked at the boy gently smiling and said, "Hello, little munchkin. You are so cute. Who made my darling cry? Shall I sing and make your boo boo go away?" She starts humming softly while tickling his feet. She then asks the man "Can I hold him for a while?" The man hesitates. He didn't know who she was or why she was offering to help. He was wary of strangers. But he also noticed that the boy had stopped being so fussy and was looking at Sanju with curiosity with his teary eyes. He saw that Sanju had a gentle and friendly face. He decided to trust her.

He said, "Okay, sure. Thank you. Here you go." He handed the boy to Sanju. Sanju took the boy and held him close to her chest. She felt his warmth and his heartbeat. She gently rocked him and started singing the lullaby "Jo jo shri krishna paramaananda". Sanju finished the lullaby and looked down at the boy. He was fast asleep in her arms, his face peaceful and relaxed. She felt a warm and tender feeling in her heart.

She looked up and saw the father staring at her with awe and gratitude. He said, "Wow, you are amazing. How did you do that? He never sleeps with anyone else. He has a severe case of stranger anxiety. He cries whenever he sees a new face. But today, he was so cranky after the vaccination, and you just came and calmed him down. You have a magic touch. "Sanju blushed and said, "Thank you, sir. I don't have any magic. I just love children. I'm glad I could help you and your son." The father said, "You are very kind and sweet. What is your name?" Sanju said, "My name is Sanju." The father said, "Nice to meet you, Sanju. I'm Vijay. And this is my son, Anvith." Sanju said, "Nice to meet you."

Just then, the door opened and a woman came out, followed by a doctor. The woman was Ragini, Vijay's wife. She had gone for a routine checkup with her OBGYN and friend, Dr Radha. She saw Vijay and Anvith was sleeping in a girl's hand. She was surprised to see that Anvith was not in Vijay's arms, but in the arms of a girl whom she did not recognize. The girl was holding Anvith close to her chest and singing a lullaby to him. Anvith was fast asleep, his face peaceful and relaxed. Ragini wondered who the girl was and how she had managed to calm Anvith down. She knew how Anvith was very fussy and clingy, especially after getting his vaccination. She reached Vijay and said, "Hi, honey. How was Anvith doing while I was gone? How did you manage?" Vijay looked up and said, "Hi, darling. We are fine. Anvith was super duper cranky after his vaccination and he refused to calm down even after I tried for half an hour. Then, Sanju here came and started to sing. He calmed down a little. Once she held him and sang one song, he was totally asleep. She has magic in her voice."

Ragini said, "Thank you so much Sanju. Nice to meet you. I'm Ragini. And this is Dr Radha. She is my OBGYN and a family friend." Dr Radha said, "Hello, Sanju. I'm Dr Radha. I'm glad to hear that you helped Ragini and Vijay with their son. He is a lovely boy. You have a very soothing presence. You must have a lot of experience with children. Are you here with someone?" Sanju said, "Hello, Ragini. Hello, Dr Radha. I'm happy to meet you both. I'm here with my grandfather. He is getting his tests done."

Dr Radha said, "How is he doing? Who is the doctor who is seeing him?" Sanju said, "He is doing okay, but he needs more tests and scans. The physician who saw him referred him to a senior cardiologist, Dr Krishna. He is supposed to be the best, but he is also very busy. I'm trying to get an appointment with him as soon as possible, but it is very hard. He has a long waiting list." Dr Radha said, "I see. Well, I happen to know Dr Krishna personally. I can ask him to see your grandfather right away." Sanju said, "Really? You can do that? Thank you so much, Dr Radha. You are very kind and helpful. You are my life saver." Dr Radha said, "You're welcome, Sanju. Let me call him and check his availability." Dr Radha took out her phone and dialed Dr Krishna's number. She spoke to him briefly and explained the situation. Dr Krishna said that he would wait for them in his office. She hung up and said to Sanju, "Let's go, Sanju. Dr Krishna is expecting us. He said he will see your grandfather right away."

Sanju carefully handed Anvith back to Vijay and Ragini. Vijay and Ragini wished her good luck. Sanju's grandfather was done with his tests and he came out. Sanju followed Dr Radha to Dr Krishna's office. She held her grandfather's hand and prayed for his health. She hoped that Dr Krishna would be able to help him. As they were walking down the hallway, they saw a crowd of people gathered around a stretcher. They heard a loud beep from a monitor and a voice saying, "Code blue, code blue, we have an emergency! A patient is having a cardiac arrest!"

Dr Radha was pushing her way through the crowd to reach the stretcher. Sanju and her grandfather looked at each other with worry. They saw a Dr coming out of his office. He looked calm and confident. He heard the voice and said, "I'm on it." He made his way through the crowd and reached the stretcher. Sanju and her grandfather followed him with their eyes. They saw him check the patient's pulse and say, "He's in ventricular fibrillation. We need to shock him now." He grabbed a defibrillator and said, "Clear!" He delivered a shock to the patient's chest. The monitor showed a flat line. Dr Krishna said, "No pulse. Come on, buddy, don't give up on me." He started chest compressions and said, "One, two, three, four..." He counted until 30 and then gave another shock. The patient's heart rhythm returned to normal. Dr Krishna announced, "He made it. He's alive." He felt the patient's heartbeat, updated his chart and said, "He's out of danger now. You can take him to the ICU. The ICU doctor will take a look" The people around him applauded and praised him as they left. He went back to his cabin.

Sanju was speechless. She just saw that he is Dr Krishna. She felt a surge of admiration and gratitude for him. She thought, "He's a lifesaver. He's the best person to help my grandfather."

They reached Dr Krishna's office and knocked on the door. Dr Krishna said "Come in". Dr Radha said, "Hello, Dr Krishna. This is Sanju and this is her grandfather. They need your help." Dr Krishna said, "Of course. I'm happy to help. Please, have a seat. Tell me, what's the problem?"

Sanju briefed him about the details so far. Dr Krishna said, "I see. Well, don't worry. I'll do my best to help him. Let me see his file and his reports. Do you have them with you?" Sanju handed Dr Krishna the file and the reports that the physician had given her. Dr Krishna took them and looked at them carefully. He nodded and said, "Hmm, I see. He has a blockage in 3 of his arteries. He needs a bypass surgery to clear it and restore the blood flow to his heart. We also need to check his blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and other factors that may affect the surgery. We need to make sure that he is fit and ready for the surgery." Sanju said, "I understand. How soon can you do the surgery?" Dr Krishna said, "Well, it depends on his health condition. I would say that the surgery can be done in the next three to six months, depending on the situation." Sanju said, "I see. I have one more question. How much will the surgery cost? And what about the medicines before and after the surgery? How much will they cost?" Dr Krishna said, "The surgery will cost around 5 lakhs rupees. That includes the hospital charges, the surgeon's fees and everything. The medicines will vary depending on the type and dosage, but they will be around 10,000 rupees per month. You will need to take them for at least six months after the surgery. So, the total cost of the surgery and the medicines will be around 6 lakhs rupees."

Sanju said, "Okay, I understand. Thank you for your help and honesty. I trust you. I'll do whatever you say. I'll take good care of my grandfather and myself. I'll be positive and hopeful. You are very kind and helpful. I don't know how to thank you both." Dr Radha said, "You're welcome, Sanju. We're just doing our job. We're here to help you. We're glad that you met Dr Krishna. He is the best cardiologist in the city. He will take good care of your grandfather. You can count on him." Dr Krishna said, "You're welcome, Sanju. You can trust me. I'll do my best to help your grandfather. Keep giving him the medicines he is on. Come back in a month and we will see how he is doing and plan the next steps. Don't worry. Everything will be okay."

Sanju comes out of the hospital with her tatha. She looks at the sky with tears of gratitude, smiling and thanking Shri Ram for being there with her and bringing helpful people to her whenever needed and in whatever form necessary.

PS: I am not a doctor. I just looked up some information and wrote it. I apologize for any mistake.
